Volunteer Director - Social Enterprise
We're looking for a volunteer Director to join our Management Committee. Bolsover Woodlands Enterprise is a social enterprise offering adults with a learning disability who provide land management services, manufacturing and selling rustic products. The aim of the social enterprise is to provide opportunities to develop new skills and be part of an enterprise which makes a positive contribution to the management and conservation of woodlands and countryside particularly in Bolsover and North East Derbyshire.
To enable us to continue to make this positive impact in our community we need a Management Committee who can provide expertise and guidance to support the delivery of our services by our dedicated team.
Becoming a Director of Bolsover Woodlands Enterprise Trustee is a fulfilling opportunity. Knowing you are making a difference to the lives of others and within your community is extremely rewarding. Directors are legally accountable for the operation of the Social Enterprise; its property, finances, employment of staff and the wellbeing of the volunteers.
Who we are looking for:
We are looking for enthusiastic and committed people to join our existing Management Committee. You may have had previous experience at Director level or within the voluntary sector and while we would welcome this it isn’t essential as we will mentor and train you.
Ideal candidates will have experience of one or more of the following – leadership, fundraising, legal issues, service delivery, strategy and planning, governance, human resources or IT systems.
Commitments:
The management committee meets between 4 - 6 times a year, usually in office hours, at our premises in Bolsover. As a Director you will:

work as part of a team with other people on the management committee making decisions in the best interest of stakeholders

monitor compliance with relevant laws affecting the charity including safeguarding

approve and drive the mission statement and priorities; review delivery of those priorities, work to mitigate associated risks

review and approve financial goals, budgets and spending

oversee and approve operational and strategic policies.

Volunteer Director with Legal/HR experience
We’re looking for a Volunteer Director who will support us to continue to make a positive impact to our team members and community. Ideally with experience of Legal/HR/ Advice to support us to develop new programmes.
What will you be doing?
Being a Director of Bolsover Woodlands Enterprise is a fulfilling opportunity. Knowing you are making a difference to lives and build skills for adults with learning disabilities.
Directors are legally accountable for the operation of the social enterprise; its property, finances, employment of staff and wellbeing of volunteers. The Management Committee meets between 4-6 times a year, usually in the office although hybrid is possible.
We have several sub-committees including Health, Safety & Environmental, Business Development, Finance and HR.
Over the past year we have moved our business model from grant funded to being self-sustainable. This has given us the flexibility to develop and expand our work outside of Derbyshire. We’re looking for Volunteer Directors who can help us grow our sites, projects and teams.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone who enjoys working as part of a management committee and is also able to move forward individual tasks.
Our team members are at the heart of what we do, so a passion for supporting adults with learning disabilities or helping people develop new skills is an advantage. We aim to give our team members the best opportunities to develop confidence and make real difference in their communities. You’ll be keen to be part of shared events such as open days, occasional activities with team members and our AGM.
We require a Volunteer Directors experienced in our key areas of Legal Support, HR, Change Management within an organisation restructure focus, or Advocacy and Advice Services.
We’re looking for people who have a good eye for detail, who can help us with legal documentation, and/or HR documentation. We have recently changed both our income stream and our structure and want Volunteer Directors who can support us to expand our offer both within the community and to more adults with learning disabilities.
We would welcome your skills and experience in contracts with new businesses, managing new sites, and working with direct payments and grants.
Our team members have annual local authority reviews and insight into advice or advocacy would also be an advantage.
As our organisation and team grows, we would like more support with staff contracts, staff benefits and workplace resourcing. The organisational structure is changing and adapting to income and resourcing needs so any experience of change management would be advantageous.
